Source of the Cher

at Mérinchal

  • 367.80 km long, the river "Le Cher" has its source here, in Mérinchal, (altitude 717m) near the village that bears its name. A tributary of the Loire, it crosses the communes of Chard, Les Mars, Auzances and Rougnat, as far as the confluence at Villandry. The small stream that rises cascades down to Chard then continues through the Cher Valley, rich in remarkable fauna and flora.
