The different orienteering sites

The Monts de Guéret are full of different sites for orienteering, each offering a unique terrain suitable for beginners and experienced orienteers alike. Whether you like forest routes, hilly areas or open spaces, you’re bound to find a site to suit you!

    • The Courtille lake

Perfect for a first approach to orienteering, this accessible site offers a pleasant setting around its vast lake. With its open spaces and small wooded areas, it’s the ideal place to learn how to read a map and hone your sense of direction, especially with your family or school group.

    • Le Puy de Gaudy

With its paths winding between clearings and undergrowth, the Puy de Gaudy offers an undulating environment ideal for improving your orienteering skills. Its various routes allow you to work on your accuracy and analysis of the terrain, while taking advantage of its unspoilt natural setting.

    • The Maupuy site

This steeper terrain is for orienteers looking for a challenge. With demanding climbs, dense vegetation and panoramic viewpoints, it requires good navigation skills and careful map reading. An ideal spot to perfect your orienteering techniques in a natural environment.

    • The Chabrières forest

A natural setting with a mystical allure, the Chabrières forest is a must for orienteering enthusiasts. Its vast wooded areas, iconic rocks and subtle relief offer a complex terrain where observation and strategy are essential to finding your way.

Whether you’re a novice or an expert, each site promises an immersive adventure in the heart of the Monts de Guéret. All you have to do is choose your playground and set off on your voyage of discovery!

Semi-permanent forest trails

Discover the semi-permanent routes in the forests of the Monts de Guéret and try to find the different markers to complete your route!

Practical information

The markers are fixed to the trees by cables. Their locations are changed regularly, so that the different routes can be renewed. The routes are located in the Maupuy massif, the Chabrières forest and the Puy de Gaudy site.

The Puy de Gaudy orienteering course

The Puy de Gaudy orienteering trail starts from the car park above the equestrian centre.

The orienteering course in the Chabrières forest

The orientation course in the Chabrières forest starts from the car park of the Parc Animalier des Monts de Guéret “Les Loups de Chabrières“.

The mountain bike orienteering course in the Chabrières forest

The trail starts from the Pierre la Grosle car park.

It can be covered by mountain bike or on foot. Markers are located along the paths. Approximately 12 km.

Klé’o courses

These courses are particularly suitable for children aged 2 to 6.

The Klé’o kit includes a Klé’o card for the accompanying adult, three game cards and a diploma for the child.

These items are available free of charge from the Grand Guéret Tourist Office or from the Parc Animalier des Monts de Guéret “Les Loups de Chabrières“.

Access to the various trails is free. Please respect fences and private property.
