The Monts de Guéret Trail Area!

There are no fewer than 10 specially marked “Trail” routes (from 5.9 km and 141 m D+ to 67 km and 2402 m D+) where every runner, whether a beginner or an expert, will find a playground in the Monts de Guéret to suit their desires and abilities. Alone or with friends, you’ll find inspiration for active breaks to prepare for your season or for the famous “Trail du Loup Blanc” in December.

For those who love night-time outings, there are 3 routes signposted with retro-reflective arrows. With a good headlamp, you can carry on training even in winter!

There are 3 entrances to the different routes: the Maupuy refuge, the Pierre la Grosle car park and the car park of the Parc Animalier des Monts de Guéret “Les Loups de Chabrières”. There is also a link from the Courtille recreation area to the start of Le Maupuy.

For your specific training, there’s a split course around the Courtille pond, a Fartlek course and a dry climb of 850m at 10% at the summit of Le Maupuy.

Route 1 green – La Vergnolle

This 6km route is ideal for beginner trail runners. On the summit of Maupuy, a quarrying area at the beginning of the 20th century, you will follow trails with no great technical difficulty.

Starting from the Refuge du Maupuy, you’ll skirt around the Carrière de la Baleine along narrow paths before descending along the Carrière de la Vergnolle, from where high-quality granite was quarried. Then…

Route 5 red – The rocks of Chabrières

Route 6 blue – Le Puy de Gaudy

Blue Route 7 – Les Bois de Sainte Feyre

Leaving from the “Les Loups de Chabrières” wildlife park, this trail takes in a less-frequented part of the Monts de Guéret forest on a variety of paths.

The first five kilometres of this trail take you through the Chabrières forest on a fairly “rolling” section as far as Peyrabout.
From there, the profile of the route changes radically as it follows a number of small valleys…

Route 8 red – By Mounts and Valleys

This 27km route is a combination of routes 6 and 7. It will give you the chance to get to grips with this distance in a format typical of many trails in France.

This loop begins with circuit 7 (Les Bois de Sainte-Feyre) and then follows circuit 6 (Le Puy de Gaudy). Of the 27km that make up this trail, only the very first few kilometres are really relaxing…

Black route 9 – From the quarries to the animal park

This black loop is a combination of routes 3 (La Grande Carrière), 4 (Le Puy de Chiroux) and 5 (La Forêt de Chabrières). It can be accessed from our 3 gateways (Refuge de jour du Maupuy, Parking Pierre la Grosle and Parc Animalier). A return link from the Aire de Loisirs de Courtille adds just over 5km to the circuit.
